Nydia Brewer is a student at Pierce Middle School but she also cheers for the Premier Athletics Michigan Xtreme in Plymouth. Nydia has been cheering ever since she was five years old. She began cheering because one day she was bored and wanted to try something new. The first time she tried she had gone to cheer for Dearborn Heights and she was placed on a young champion team. Shortly after leaving Nydia went to Premier Athletics because of a friend who recommended her. Premier also wanted her to help them in a cheer competition and found she really liked them and stayed. During her time there she thought about it and decided she wanted to try something new and started to work the handicapped children.

Nydia volunteers with handicapped children with other cheerleaders. She’s volunteered with handicapped people on weekends every Sunday. The handicapped comes to her at Premier. She said that she likes helping them because she loves helping others and watching them enjoy the things that also makes her happy.

Nydia recently participated in a cheer competition in Florida broadcast by ESPN. The competition began in March 11 and lasted for two days. She competed against girls from Japan. They were competing for a bid in summit for another competition broadcast by ESPN. Summit is a competition in which  you must place in the top two in order to move to the next competition.

In cheer, they must be a team and they work together by having team bonding and even to go watch other teams and cheer them on. Cheer has help Nydia not to lash out at people and to put on a smile even when something is bothering her. Even though cheer is awesome Nydia says that she’s done a lot of other sports like soccer, volleyball, basketball, and gymnastics.
